The Center is mainly engaged in policies and standards related to green, low carbon and recycling of the whole life cycle of EEE. The center is a technical support institution for the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology(MIIT), the National Development and Reform Commission(NDRC), the Ministry of Ecology and Environment(MEE) and other government departments.
The major work of Center includes projects research, standards setting, organizing EEE&EPR international conference, relative symposium and workshops, publishing WEEE White Paper and EPR Annual Report for EEE industry, establishing industry database, provides consulting service on policies, standards and technologies and assessment report on EPR, and works on EPR alliance.
EEE&EPR Conference is organized by the China Household Electric Appliance Research Institute (CHEARI), Peking University, Tsinghua University, Renmin University of China, and other well-known scientific research institutions and associations.
EEE&EPR Conference has been successfully held for 14 sessions since 2005, attracting various participants from government officials, experts, associations and all kinds of organizations, as well as representatives from producers, collectors, recyclers from China, the United States, Europe, Southeast Asia and other countries and regions. The conference promotes the ecological development of EEE industry in China, drives the green transformation based on EPR system, improves the technical level of WEEE recycling, strengthens the communication and cooperation between EEE manufacturing industry and WEEE recycling industry, and builds green supply chain for the whole life cycle of EEE.
Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) system is a new environmental protection system widely used in the world for WEEE recycling management. However, different countries and regions have different EPR systems.
In order to facilitate communication and understanding, and to promote the improvement of China's EPR system,
CHEARI has started EPR International Partnership Program since 2019.By establishing bilateral partnership with foreign EPR institutions, the EPR program promotes the exchange of EPR system and implementation between the two parties.
As a national industry research institute, CHEARI has been conducting WEEE industry surveys annually since 2011, organizing the preparation and release of WEEE white papers in China, and irregular releasing English versions involved. The WEEE white paper lets more countries and regions know the latest situation of WEEE recycling in China.
In EPR and WEEE recycling field, CHEARI organizes site visit for domestic and oversea industry, and also provides service on policies, standards and technologies.
Korea Electronics Recycling Cooperative (KERC) is an association organization. KERC is committed to establishing a resource circulation society by facilitating the collection and recycling of waste electrical and electronic equipment.
Major Activities: Strengthen Take-back systems, Construction of new collecting system, Support of resource circulation policy, Eco-friendly recycling.
The World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) is a CEO-led global coalition of 200 visionary member companies working together to accelerate progress towards sustainable development. Circular Electronics Partnership (CEP) is an organization under WBCSD that promotes circular economy. CEP is a clearinghouse and convener of the partner organizations, member companies and allies. CEP has developed “Circular Electronics System Map 2030” and “Circular Electronics System Map: An Industry Blueprint for Action”, with the aim to drive a coordinated transition toward an economically viable circular industry.
